We have some great news! Valcon SEE (fka Typeqast) is in the Top 250 Groeibedrijf 2023, meaning we are one of the 250 most innovative and fastest-growing companies in the Netherlands. After our success last year and the year before, when we ranked in the top 5 scaleups in the Netherlands, we are happy to be on the list again.
In the text, you can learn more about the annual research project, which is the result of a long-term collaboration between the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship, the Rotterdam School of Management (Erasmus University Rotterdam) and NLgroeit.
About the Top 250 Groeibedrijf 2023
"Groeibedrijf" means a high-growth firm (HGF) that has an average annual growth in full-time employment (FTEs) of more than 20% over a three-year period. The Top 250 Groeibedrijven are the most innovative and fastest-growing companies in the Netherlands and are selected based on the weighting of absolute (in number) and relative growth (in percentages) in FTEs between 2019 and 2022.
Given the importance scaleups have in the Dutch economy, the researchers decided to investigate how they can achieve such high growth and impact. The research involves a detailed analysis of fast-growing companies' conduct in order to identify and measure their growth formula. In this way, the researchers develop a set of indicators that serve as a basis for effective policy and as inspiration for other SMEs with growth ambitions.
The Top 250 Groeibedrijven 2023 by Sectors and Regions
According to the research mentioned above, North Holland is the province with the most Top 250 Groeibedrijven. Compared to the Top 250 2022, South Holland is back in second place but has lost ground, dropping from 48 to 35. Amsterdam increases its dominance, rising from 86 to 97. The chasing pack consists of Utrecht, which remains stable at 20 HGFs, and Rotterdam, which drops from 23 to 18. Eindhoven is still number 4 (8), followed by Breda (7), Leiden (6) and Groningen (6).
And the leading industries are in the following sectors:
- Enterprise & Business Software (26%)
- Advisory Business & Information Services (11%)
- Marketing & Media (10%)
- Energy (8%)
- Health (6%)
Female Entrepreneurship and Leadership
As for female entrepreneurship and leadership, research has shown that they are still the exception. The increase observed in the Top 250 Groeibedrijven 2022 in the number of high-growth companies with at least one female founder and/or C-level manager has stalled. The number of Top 250 Groeibedrijven 2023 with female leadership decreased to 24 from 29 in 2022, compared to 12 in 2021.

Top 250 Groeibedrijven Event on September 25
Valcon SEE is honoured to be part of the Top 250 Groeibedrijven Event organised by NLgroeit and the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship on September 25 at AFAS Leusden.
